Renewable Energy Project Edinburgh
The owners of this large Victorian terraced house, has undertaken a comprehensive refurbishment programme which aims to cut down running costs and increase the energy efficiency of the property.
In order to achieve this, the windows have been changed from single glazed to double glazed timber sash and case windows. All windows and doors have been draft proofed. The ground floor solum has been insulated and so has the roof. This reduces heat-loss and increases air-tightness which substantially reduces energy consumption and cost.
The flat roof has been fitted with two solar panels which heats the water and ten photovoltaic panels to generate electricity. The hot water requirements for the house will be covered entirely during the summer months whilst the electricity generated will be sold back onto the grid.
